Clinical Trials

An important part of our mission

Just as there are misconceptions about cancer screening tests, there are also misconceptions about clinical trials. When people think about clinical trials, many imagine "guinea pigs"-patients getting inferior treatment or a sugar pill (placebo) instead of actual medical treatment. Many people also think that clinical trials are only for the sickest patients who have no other treatment options. That is not the case. Clinical trials can be one of the fastest and safest ways to find treatments and to improve health. In cancer research, clinical trials are done to find out whether new approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are safe and effective.
