During the first three years of the collaboration we have taken the pulse of the community by conducting a series of research pilots to identify the health concerns and beliefs of the Latino Community in the Washington, DC area. We have also taken the pulse of healthcare providers through key informant interviews and received valuable information and insight on their needs and concerns. The journey so far has been extremely rewarding for the coalition members. The community clinics without previous formal research experience are embracing the initiative with eagerness and excitement, academic partners are applying their teaching and research roles at the community level, and community members are already benefiting from the work, having been recruited for clinical trials and increasing awareness of cancer prevention and control practices.
